What we keep, where, and for how long.

This site itself keeps no database of what you send us. The only personal data we handle is what you type into one of our forms. Depending on the form, it reaches our mailbox in Canada — read by a named person — or, if you sign up for the newsletter, is kept as a contact by our email-delivery service.

Effective 7 September 2026 · 株式会社梅澤物産 (Umezawa Bussan, Japanese company), Jiyugaoka, Tokyo

what our forms collect

What each form sends, and nothing more.

Contact message

Your name, email, and message. If you’d like to include a company or business name, add it to the message itself. Forwarded to our inbox with your address as the reply-to; the segment you picked is written into the subject line so it reaches the right person directly.

Checklist request

Your name, email, and whether you ticked the newsletter box. We email you the Canada market-entry checklist. Only if you ticked the box do we also register your email, name, and the record of that consent with our newsletter service (Resend).

Early design-partner list

Your name, email, and a line about your restaurant. Forwarded to our inbox with your address as the reply-to, so we can reply about a version 3 design-partner slot.

Newsletter signup

If you sign up from an Insights article or elsewhere, we take only your email. Along with the date and time, the page you were on, the language you were reading in, and how you signed up, it’s registered as a contact with our newsletter service (Resend).

No form is stored by this site itself, in a database, a spreadsheet, or a customer-relationship tool. What you send reaches our inbox, or — if you join the newsletter — is kept as a Resend contact as described above, with a one-click unsubscribe on every email.

Canada · PIPEDA

Your message lives in our Canadian mailbox.

Under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, we collect what you send for one purpose: to reply to you and, if you ask, to arrange a call. We keep the thread in the mailbox for as long as the conversation needs, and delete it when you ask.

We never sell or rent your details, and we share them only with the services listed below, each for the single job named there. To see, correct, or delete anything we hold about you, write to hello@umezawabussan.com and Kodai will answer personally.

Japan · 個人情報保護法 (APPI)

For visitors writing from Japan.

Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information asks us to tell you plainly: the business handling your data is 株式会社梅澤物産 (Umezawa Bussan, Japanese company), in Jiyugaoka, Meguro-ku, Tokyo; the purpose of use is replying to your inquiry and arranging a meeting, and, if you sign up, sending the newsletter; your data is transferred to Canada, where our mailbox and the services below operate; and requests for disclosure, correction, or deletion go to the address above.

analytics

We count visits without cookies.

We use Umami, a privacy-first analytics service. It sets no cookie and stores no identifier that could name you, which is why this site shows no cookie banner. It counts page views and a handful of named events, such as a segment being picked or a message being sent, and reports them only as totals.

newsletter · CASL

The newsletter is opt-in, and we keep the receipt.

Under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, you join only by ticking a box that starts empty — we never tick it for you, and asking for the checklist alone never subscribes you. When you tick it we record the moment: the date and time, the page you were on, the language you were reading in, and how you gave consent. Every issue names the sender, carries our postal address, and has a one-click unsubscribe that works at once. The subscriber list and that consent record are held by Resend, the same service that sends our email.

who handles your data

Three services, each with one job.

CloudflareServes the site, runs the form endpoints, and checks that a message comes from a person (Turnstile). Sees the request, stores nothing from it.
ResendSends the email from hello@umezawabussan.com: your message to our inbox, the checklist to you. If you subscribed to the newsletter, it also holds the subscriber list and the record of your consent.
UmamiCookieless visit counts, reported as totals.
